Question

Hello,
Having a problem with Norton Disk Doctor. When my computer crashes, I restart, and it will go to NDD during bootup. It gets halfway through the scan when a red warning sign comes up stating:

"Out of Memory! Try removing all resident software and device drivers. Then run NDD again."

It then exits and windows comes up fine. Any suggestions? I have run NDD from windows and had no problems, just this DOS version. How would I remove my drivers and which ones? Thanks.

What OS and what version of NDD are you using? Some older versions don't like newer OSs. Also, you said you were using the DOS version - I assume you mean you're using NDD.EXE rather than NDD32.exe?

I am using Windows 98 (Dell OEM) and I do not know which version of NDD is being called at boot up. It is a version which will run after the computer is improperly shutdown. During boot-up it does a sort of scan disk, and I think it is NDD.

boot slow...

Next time that happens, press F8 and boot step-by-step. That way, you can watch to see what things are loaded. Watch for some little program loading into memory to make the memory accessed/cached differently.

disable NDD from replacing scandisk in the options settings. Then try it with scandisk. NDD can get that way if it gets corrupt, or has a bad update.
