Now I can not install PCMCIA external cd-rom to DOS, in order to set up windows98 from the CD-rom. The win98 boot disk doesn't recognize the cd-rom. the driver came with the Ext cd-rom doesn't work with DOS. any way to get arround this??? Thanks!!!! |

You CAN install Win98 with floppies...
Just copy all the files from the win98 floppies (buy them or make them) to a directory on your HD and install from that directory. If you don't have a cab-copier to put the 1.6M or 2M files on a floppy, use pkzip to span disks and expand them to that directory.
Hope this helps. Sounds like your options in DOS are limitted.

I would use a partitioning utility (such as Partition Magic) to create a drive to store the Windows CD files, and any other files you want to keep. Then I would reformat the primary partition and install from the second partition.
