DVD player doesn't work on XP
I am trying to install a DVD player on Windows XP Professional. When I try to install the drivers, it says it needs mscdex.exe from MS-DOS. Windows XP Help says it will automatically take care of this issue, but it still does not work. Any ideas on how to get this dvd player to work? XP put it's own drivers in for the drive, but the drive does not play cd's or dvd's-other than being present in device manager, the system does not recognize the drive. It is an 8x BTC . I checked the website for patches and there are none. Please help if you can. Thanks.

Drivers? I've never heard of installing DVD-Rom drivers. What kind of drivers are you installing and where did you get them?

DarkFury,
You're the best man. I'll try removing from device manager and adding it again and if that doesn't work, I'll take a good look at the Pioneer 16x. Always wanted one of those, but they were really pricy on eBay, so... Thanks again. Tim |

Quote:
Don't install the drivers - those are just for older versions of windows, like 3.1. If you have the drive set correctly - master, or slave - and plugged into an IDE port, windows should just pull it up, regardless. Now, to actually watch movies, you do need software to install, either that comes with the drive, or that PC friendly crap that comes with most dvd's. But you don't need drivers for the drive itself, certainly not under XP.
