install windows
If i format my HD and then install windows do i need a boot disk or can i do it straight off of the CD?

Eh, depends what windows version. 98 you WILL need a boot disk. NT and the likes. . . I believe not. I could be wrong though. Just have a boot disk for safety. I have heard a lot of nightmares with people not having a bootdisk.

With 98se, you can boot from the disc... though, you'll need to make the CD drive the first boot device (set that up in the BIOS).
I'm also pretty sure that XP is Disc-bootable. But as soon as it's loaded... you should make a boot floppy for yourself. Dave. |

Actually... just realized... it all depends on the capability of your motherboard (i.e. if it supports CD boot device).

some regular 98 CDs are bootable as well
