Anybody use DAP(download accelerator plus)???

DAP(download accelerator plus)

My friend says it's one of those programs that splits up downloads into fragments, then pieces them back together so speed up downloads. HAve you tried it? Is it reliable? Is it worth it?

i use it, its seems to work. if you are on dial up, i dont think it it speeds things up too much. but if you are on broadband, it seems to work much better. its also a decent download manager, but the ads from the adware version is annoying.

DAP contains spyware. I use GetRight instead.

I too now use Getright. I've used DAP but it often fails to find servers whereas Getright will find it, DL it w/o problems.

GetRight not only accelerates downloads, but it resumes them if the connection is broken. Also, you can schedule downloads for when you are away from your computer or for late at night. It really is the most feature-rich download accelerator out there.

There are quite a few download managers out there that support resuming broken downloads as well as scheduling downloads. As a matter of fact, if you look around there are quite a few of them that are completely free (as in free from ads as well). Here are some examples:

DLExpert

Star Downloader

Fresh Download

Hope this helps.

well, ive switched to getright. its has a lot more options than DAP, but i think that dap has a cleaner layout. one thing i liked about dap was the leech option. anyone know if there is something similar with getright? daps leech option makes it real easy to DL all links on the page you are looking at

according to the sutton designs page which you posted, getright v4.1 uses aureate. the current version is 4.5c which hopefully doesnt contain any spyware. i also did a search for files which aureate uses (listed on www.cexx.org) and i didnt find any of them. a cnet review claims that getright no longer contains any spyware

Many download managers enjoy (and sometimes deserve) bad reputations. Not only do they often display a rotating series of advertisements, they may also employ spyware files, which monitor your surfing habits and/or your computer configuration and send information back to their own Web sites. GetRight carried spyware for more than a year but reverted in its 4.3 release to ad-free freeware for this version. Upgrade, and the ads and spy-ability disappear. Beware, however. Although GetRight itself is spyware free, any app that goes with it, such as Gator, could contain spyware or adware. So if you don't want spyware on your PC, install GetRight alone.

I've used DAP for several years with no problems. It works great and the resume feature has come in handy more than once. I also never had a problems getting servers with DAP.
