win xp problems

I am runnin windows XP, and just lately, like starting today this has been happening. It has happened moslty in IE and also when I use gamespy, but anyways... I am just using the program and then it like freezes up, I close it and it says: This program is not responding... blah blah... end task. It is happening a lot until I can't even open the program anymore. I then have to restart the comp, and the cycle continues. Anyone know how to fix this? (If it makes sense)

Go in the MB BIOS and set the first startup drive to CD-Rom! Drop your WinXP CD into the CD-Rom, save the BIOS setting, and exit! Follow the instruction...
