Any ideas on an easy to use program that will combine two pictures into a single file? I want them side by side, not merged, not any photoshop trickery. This seems like it should be so east. so I apologize if the answer is obvious, but every program i have tried blends the pictures together, or requires a PhD to figure out (Photoshop). Any help is appreciated...

If you are using Photoshop, open both images and go to Image -> Canvas Size for one of the images.
You should see a section labelled Anchor. Click the arrow on the side of the image you wish to anchor. For example, if you wish to insert your second image to the right of the second one, anchor the first image to the left. Next, add the dimension by which you wish to increase the canvas size. Basically, if you are placing the second image to the right of the first, add the width of the second image to the width of the first. When you click OK, the background of your image should increase to allow you to drag and drop the second image onto the first. Align the images and you are all set!
