I am having a very very strange problem with 2 ME machines. I am a network technician for the housing department for a university.
Here are they symptoms: they CAN release/Renew IP's They CAN use Telnet They CAN use AOL They CANNOT use IE For anything - it will not connect to any pages and gives the same general error, server cannot be foudd.blablabla Things i have tried: The Winsock2 fix Uninstall / Reinstall IE Remove all proxies, all scripts Internet Connection Wizard "Fix IE" System Restores None of these worked. If anyone has seen this problem, has any ideas on how to fix them, that would be FAntastic!!! These kids have been waiting for a few weeks to get the net back. Thanks in advance.

RajatQ2, are you able to use another browser like Netscape to access the web? If so then we can narrow it down to IE. Also, are you behind a firewall of any kind? Is it possible that your university has blocked some applications from being used on your network?

Thanks for the netscape suggestion. i should try that... i dont know why i idnt think of it
![]() No, we dont have any sort of a firewall. our exit router is nothing special, it only blocks a few ports for data transfer. I think its something with winME because i have never seen this before, or after, and i ahve seen almost every wierd network problem there is to be seen. Last time we had a wierd WinME problem, it was when the OS was automatically updating drivers for Linkysys NIC cards, w/o any confirmation, and Microsoft was distributing drivers that didn't work. It took a while to figure that one out, but we finally got it. I fear this problem may be the result of another winblows trick, gone bad. THANKS again |
