I am always looking for a bigger and better memory management tool. I found dRAMatic today and it seems to be my favorite memory utility thus far. You can clear all of your memory, defragment it, or free up a certain alotted amount of memory as well. You can even automate tasks as well, such as keeping a certain amount of RAM free under certain load conditions. It's pretty slick!

I've been using Kazaa Lite for about a week now. I had used the full version of Kazaa previously, just testing it out. However, both versions always gave me an error and crashed after a little while. I figured that there was probably a memory leak in the Kazaa software somewhere (maybe just with my configuration).
Now I have proof that Kazaa has a memory leak! I loaded Kazaa and soon cleared all of my memory and as you can see, my free memory began to slowly decrease until it was practically zero. I then restored my free RAM to 128MB, which is half of the 256MB in this system. Once again, Kazaa's memory leak toke over and dropped my free memory again. I killed Kazaa before it could bring my free memory down anymore, which is exactly the point on the graph that becomes horizontal again. It appears that there is either a quirk with my system, or the Kazaa programmers overlooked something! ![]() |

I don't like that you have to pay to get some of the nicer features.
I'm testing MemTurbo and MaxMem, both of which allow automation. MaxMem is completely free (no paid version) and MemTurbo can be *easily* registered. You can set MaxMem to optimize the memory once a set length of 'idle' time has passed. There's no shortcut key, but you can simply click the tray icon to optimize. The tray icon displays a simple updating color graph of you system's memory usage, and the tooltip gives numerical values. You can also disable the program if you're doing something and you'd like it not to run. MemTurbo seems to have more options, as well a 'Scrub RAM' feature that performs multiple passes (5-6) to free any available memory. You can setup a shortcut key to optimize the memory, but not to scrub. (I believe it's setup like this because scrubing the memory isn't something you'll need to do ofter or that completes as quickly as a optimization). The tray icon displays a color to indicate memory condition and a number representing the amount of free memory. The tooltip reports when the next automatic optimization will take place. You can't disable MemTurbo, you have to shut it down and then restart it if you're doing something and you'd like it not to run. You can set a CPU uses threshold which will prevent the automatic optimization to occur. I'm testing both programs on several systems and will post which of these seems to perform the best, i.e. leave the system with the most amount of available memory under normal usage conditions. |

I use Maxmem, its small so it doesnt use much resources itself and it does all I need it to do.

I posted this thread before I realized that the automation was not available in the "free" version.
I checked out MemTurbo, which seems to be very cool, but I don't like the fact that you can't minimize it to the system tray only. It's still on the taskbar when active. I also checked at MaxMem, which I am currently using. It's very simple to use and seems to work well enough. If I didn't have to pay for the full version of dRAMatic, I would probably use that over MaxMem, but for now, MaxMem will do. |

People love Analog X, the maker of MaxMem. Worship and Respect!
Anyway, I believe the trial version of MemTurbo stays on the taskbar to 'remind' you that you're only trying it out. The licensed version completely minimizes to the try. ![]() |
