Cyric,
I don't think you're going to find any answers more detailed than you already received in this (2 Harddrives????) thread. If you want to re-install the programs on the new hard drive, just install. If there are related files that have been created or customized, you could then copy them from the old hard drive to the new hard drive. Once there is nothing that you need in the app's folder on the old hard drive, you could just delete that folder (I wouldn't try an "uninstall", as the uninstall script would be looking to get rid of stuff on your current OS drive, which is the new one). If you want to try to run a program that is installed on the old hard drive, try to create a shortcut to the app and execute it. As was said in the other thread, it may work or it may not.

Yes Markel I know about the other post. But if I could install them I wouldn't be posting again. Could you just explain it to me, because I tried what I know an it doesn't work, I'm no computer wiz. I just need some help to get going. But I will keep trying. And thanks for the help so far.

To try to run a program off the old drive:
1) Open Windows Explorer 2) Navigate to the old drive (probably D:\ if you only have one partition on your new drive) 3) Expand to the program you are looking for (this can vary, but probably D:\Program Files\TheProgramOfInterest 4) The program that is launched is usually a .exe file of a recognizable name (it may help if you click on View/Details and also View /Folder Options and uncheck the option that says "Hide file extensions for known file types". Note: YOU SHOULD ALWAYS SET YOUR SYSTEM TO REVEAL FILE EXTENSIONS IN ORDER TO HELP PROTECT YOU FROM CLICKING ON A "VIRUS" FILE (such as "SomeName.txt.scr"). I usually like to check "Show All Files" under the "Hidden Files" section. 5) For a test, you could just double click on the TheProgramOfInterest.exe and see how it runs. If it does ok, you will want to create a shortcut in your current start menu or on your desktop. 6) If you still aren't sure how to launch the program, you could navigate to the Start Menu on the old drive. It probably is under D:\Windows\Start Menu\ , then start expanding until you find the one you are interested in. Once you see the correct item to launch the program, right click on it, select "Properties", click on the "Shortcut" tab, and the "Target" field will show exactly what file is used to launch the program. |

Hey thanks Markel. I keep trying what you said to do but I keep getting this error message.
This application must be installed to run. Please run setup from the location where you origanally installed the application. So then I believe igo to the setup on my D drive with D:\Windows\Start Menu\ in the run and still can't open the programs or install them to the new drive. I guess I'm just a knuckleheaad because I can't figure it out. Thanks again. later Gun |
