Its slowly dying...

my win2k box is slowly dying, i dont know what the hell is going on. for the last week stuff has just been going haywire. when i try to view the properties for a single folder, nothing happens, but if i try it for a group of folders or a file, i dont get any problems. when i use windows search program, explorer.exe crashes. if i use the search button on ie, ie crashes. also for some reason, i cant get the tv program for my radeon all in wonder to work anymore either, i get an error saying that the video wont initialize. when i start up my box, it takes upwards of 5 minutes, most between win2k splash screen and login, a far cry from the 1-2 minutes it took me last month. and after a login, it some programs make the computer hang for 5-10 minutes. this is driving me crazy and i really dont have the time to reinstall everything right now and i cant find my ghost backup. of all the functions, i really need search right now, i have other tv's, but i need to find some files at least so i can backup the rest of my stuff.

also a few weeks ago, i noticed that norton antivirus 2002 wasnt working properly so i uninstalled it and reinstalled it. then zonealarm 3 started to go haywire and i reinstalled that. now they both work fine after minutes of start up. i think that NAV is causeing some of the long login time.

yesterday, i decided to try repairing windows and it seemed to do nothing except reset some of my customizations. i dont know what is going on.

any ideas on what could be the problem. as long as i have the search function, i will be happy for another week or so, after that i might format and install xp pro.

well the only error i get is with ati's tv software:

Quote:
The TV player failed to initialize the video.

Ensure the correct video drivers have been installed and close any applications which may be playing video such as DVD or WebTV before attempting to restart TV.

uninstalled the video card drivers and ati mmc, restarted and reinstalled. that didnt help. all the other problems i mentioned just freeze the computer or in the case of the properties dialog box, just dont work.
