Saving streaming Media

Many sites (such as ifilm) offer full length streaming "windows media" movies or other features. I have not yet found a way to actually save any of the streaming movies, though. What I would like to be able to do is "download" the movie and watch it at my leisure on my laptop while traveling or otherwise.

I understand that this is probably configured this way to prevent copying/sharing of the files... but my only motivation is to be able to view it "offline". Anyone know of an application or method to save streaming video?

I can think of hooking the display of one PC into the video capture card of another PC, but this seems like overkill, plus I would probably lose something in the conversion/de-conversion to AVI.

Any thoughts?

Thanks, Kame, but that only works for streaming audio.

I found this: http://www.luosoft.com/nsr.htm

NetstreamRecorder can autosave the webpage, image, audio and video browsing your website. If only you start it after running the Internet Explorer, and you don't need to download network resources which the software will automatically remeber it you have browsed through the Internet Explorer and you can browse offline, meanwhile, the software also sustain other browsers. Especially, it is available to save important and intersted websites.

I will be giving it a shot... hopefully the software makes more sense than the desciption.

If you're only looking to view Windows Media files offline, you can use ASFRecorder. Hope this helps.

NetStreamRecorder wouldn't do anything for me other than give me lots of opportunities to send error reports to Microsoft.

ASFRecorder rocks, though! Not only do I get the "offline" capabilities that I wanted, but the quality is better since you never have any dropped frames.

Thanks for the help, guys!

there's also one called streambox VCR for realplayer. I think they got sued by Real networks and had to shut down. There are lots of them floating on the internet though
