with old versions, like ns3 or 4, you only had to type the middle part of the address and press enter and it would search for proper adress. you could just type gotapex and it would look to see if www.gotapex.com existed and if it did, ns would direct you to it.

i think mozilla is bloated, and netscape takes too long to load once executed. as far as the address completion deal, all browsers on my mac seem to do it. All i do is type gotapex and i get http://www.gotapex.com/ Its such a great feature to have. It pisses me off while i'm using a PC and i have to press extra keys to get it to complete, or when it trys to load http://gotapex/

I've been using Netscape as my primary browser forever, but I haven't gone up to 7 yet. I recently switched over to Mozilla, which is very similar to Netscape 6.2 . Mozilla has a few extra features (ctrl/tab to open top-tabbed browser windows). I just try to stay away from the security hole (aka IE).

Guys help me out on this one. Why would I want to put a different browser on the computer. I mean IE seems to pull up pages just fine. Putting another program on the machine, more registry entries, more icons in system tray, more processes running all this seems like a high price to pay for functionality already built in. So tell me, why?
Note: I'm not being sarcastic, just trying to firgure out why you bother with other browsers. ![]()

I've liked Netscape ever since using 6.2. I hated 4x Netscape, uuhhhh disgusting. 6.2 was excellent though (still is), those that can deal with the initial loading of it into memory (ie Quick Start) will see the brilliance that it is. Just the fact that a) it has never crashed on me, not ONE TIME, and b) it handles images better than IE (and Opera, for a brief stint) so it also loads pages faster, sometimes twice as fast, as IE. The only thing I dislike about Netscape is the fact that for some reason, it works crappy on forums such as these. Usually emoticons in particular come up really messed up; maybe it has some issue with repeating GIFs or something. I'm using Netscape 7 now and it's even better than 6.2, just a few new things here and there (like the tabs which they took off Opera and Mozilla but then again Netscape 7 *is* Mozilla 1) but it's still fast as hell.
The argument can be made (re: Netscape needing to load initially which takes longer than IE) that keep in mind that IE is pretty much the same thing as Windows Explorer, which IS Windows therefore IE loads WITH Windows and when it boots and you're at the desktop, IE is already loaded because Windows is loaded. I guarantee you that if you could disable the loading of Explorer (if it were possible) that it would take just as long to load Explorer (ie IE) that it does to load Netscape into memory. <Just my two cents on the mattter.> |
