Copying laser discs?

Is it possible to copy laser discs, yes those large ones, to a couple of CD's? The early Karaoke songs were formatted on to Laser discs and included little 3 minute or so movies per song, approx. 15-20 songs per side.

I would think you just need to have a video in on your PC and just record to mpeg, then you can make that a VCD

Recommend a good program? My computer is only a PII 400. Is that adequate? And I have a Celeron 466 laptop with a firewire adapter.
Acceptable for this task?
