Wow... interesting. Thanks for the run down, chosen.

Thanks from here, too, on the Nero rundown.
You mentioned you use NTI for your general-purpose burning. I used it back in '98 when I first got a Memorex 1622. At the time, though, it seemed to be behind the other cd burning programs in terms of features (e.g. it wasn't able to burn audio CDs using mp3s as sources until sometime in 2000). I switched to Adaptec/Roxio and then Nero. Is the NTI software (I assume we're talking about their CD-Maker product) really that good now? p.s. For what it's worth, I found this site that has it for $4.99. Last edited by caribiner23 : 10-07-2002 at 10:20 AM. |

Thats very interesting information. I kind of just took it for granted that Nero was the best out there. Could you post the actual benchmark drops that you got? Both my computers are due for a reformat, and Nero may not be part of the new setup.

Fool, I'm going to guess it's the ASPI layer nero installs, which I bet anything isn't removed when you uninstall. That would screw up RAID performance for sure.
But man, are you...particular!

Any speculation from the pros as to whether this would also cause a simillar drop in speed if just using a single drive? (As opposed to RAID 0.)

Nero uses it's own ASPI software, it doesn't license the Adaptec version.

How do you remove or modify ASPI layers?
BTW, the latest version of CDRWIN has been out for several weeks. |
