Would it be a pain to...

network a linux box and windows box together?

At home I have a router and 2 windows xp comps, I want to make a server and maybe play with linux on it. Would they see each other fine? I'm a total n00b in linux.

No, it wouldn't be a pain. I would first suggest paritioning off about 8gb on one of the Xp machines and making it a XP/Linux dual boot system, just so you can see how to do it.
This might help Then again, This may answer more questions

That is a great site. look around. It's fairly simple once you get the hang of it.
