windows 2000 network connection- setting up a second location

I swear I asked this question before but I cannot find it when I search. I have a coworker who wants to set his laptop to be able to connect at home and at the office, one using DHCP and the other using static. I thought all you had to do was use Make a new Connection but all it does is go through the Network Installation wizard but doesn't create a new location. Is there a way to do this or is he doomed to change his IP everytime he switches locations?

This is not a supported config on W2K (stupid Microsoft!). His choices are:

- Make the network setting change every time
- Install a 2nd NIC - have static on one, DHCP on 2nd
- Use a utility like http://www.netswitcher.com/

I agree with Jeff. I've used NetSwitcher and it's pretty cool.

Additionally, if your friend has a ThinkPad, IBM has a really nifty utility called "Access Connections" which handles all the network switching for you. I use this to switch between home and office all the time.

He can download it from the ThinkPad device driver matrix at www.pc.ibm.com.

Now that I think of it, I wonder if you could get away with using this on a non-IBM machine...
