I recently reformatted my main drive just for a fresh start of Windows 2000. I downloaded Norton AntiVirus 8.0 from my school's website. When I double click to execute the installer, the Symantec Packager says:

"You must be an administartor to install this package on your computer."

Hmmm... I AM the administrator though! I log in as the Admin every time, heck, I think that's the only account I've set up. I've made sure that I am indeed logged in as admin, so what's up with it!

I tried McAfee since NAV wasn't working, and it was sucking big time (errors) so I ditched it... any clue how I can get NAV running? I've tried 7.32 as well, but to no avail.

It says you have to be an administrator, not admin.


Na.. try setting up a fake account with administrator rights and see if it will let you through that account.

Just a guess, but:

Are you sure you are logging into the local computer as Administrator and not the DOMAIN admin?

I cracked down and decided to reformat again. I've been unprotected for about 3 weeks, and I've been noticing weird stuff going on, so maybe it'll work this time!

FYI - by default, the domain admin is also part of the local admin group on every machine attached to the network.

Yep, although some people, (Like me) remove that, so that every helpdesk tech that has the Domain admin password isn't snooping around on my computer.
