I got a directshow filter for ac3 files. I have yet to install it (I don't even know from where I got it). It's 244KB (file=ac3filter) If it sounds like somethingthat would help, I can email it to you.

im using a live 5.1 platinum in xp pro. when i install the xp drivers from creative the live drive doesnt work. so i installed some hacked 2k drivers and softare and some xp software that i cracked myself. i have checked the digital output only, but i dont get any sound that way through the rear jack to my reciever. when i plug it in to the front spdif out on the live drive it works. also there is no ac3 decoding option anywhere, not even in creatives surround mixer. i have a feeling that xp sp1 messed things up because on my last xp install i didnt have these problems.

Its ALIVE! muhaHAHAHA!!!

it works! thanks bires. heres the sourceforge homepage for anyone else who is interested. my system is back in full effect and NO CREATIVE PLAYCENTER!!!

for some reason it didnt want to work with wmp9 right away. it worked with wmp6.4 right after the install and then when i tried wmp9 it worked. strange. 6.4 should be in the windows media player directory as mplayer2.exe.

btw, i got my livedrive and rear spdif jack working no thanks to creative. what a pain, i had to use a combination of hacked 2k and xp drivers
AC3filter progect page
it looks like this guy is also writing a winamp ac3 filter

yep, that was what allowed wmp to send the signal through the spdif to my reciever. the first link i gave was the sourceforge homepage for the project.
