WinXP activation

I'm curious is anyone knows what happens if a WinXP is either not activated in 30 days or is running on 2 machines.

I ignored it once and when time ran out I had to re-install XP before I could do anything.

The on-line activation or automated phone activation only allows you to install it on two computers. If you are looking to install it on a third computer you will have to speak to a customer service rep.

Legally you can install XP with the same serial number on two different computers, as long as there networked together. I went through this at work with there on-line tech support.

I heard this as well. But after talking with the phone rep., that 2 installs on one computer is only for WinXP Pro, not the Home version.

If you use a corporate product key, you don't have to activate it at all.. Since you already own the software, you wouldn't do anything illegal with it, I'm sure we all know that!

You can do a search on "Do a google search" or something. Just keep in mind that that site does have a lot of pr0n sponsorship (that's why I didn't link to it). So don't use it at work!

This is what happens when a software monopoly gets out of hand, is found guilty and then not punished.

Heh. Same here.

Sort of annoying calling them up and explaining another reformat or another component change. Please. Big Brother, you don't need to know everything!

Just do a careful check on a search engine and find something that will make you your own unique lock breaker for that specific lock that is so diffrent from what the home users and pros use. (Hint Hint)

The corporate version doesn't require activation at all. The only thing that determines a corporate version is the product key you put in during setup. Windows recognizes the key and does not prompt for activation. Imagine working in a corporation and having to activate 10,000 workstations (which my company has) and having to call MS evertime you're gonna reformat??

That definately wouldn't be too cool. Thanks for the advice.
