Does anyone know how to turn off those memory-eating, comp-slowing processes?? and which processes are essential/non-essential??
I got at least 20 processes running all the time in the background and i wanna get rid of all the non-essential processes so my comp would work faster. Sorry if this seems like a newbie question, but i'd really appreciate any help from you guys~ Thanks in advance~!! ![]() |

Some of the processes are launched by the OS services, others are programs that are running.
To see the system services that are running, Right click on My Computer and choose Manage. Now choose Services and Applications, then Services. Now on the right panes, you'll see a list of the services with a description. Look at the Status column. All of the services that say "Started" in the status column are running and will show up as processes. You need not concern yourself with the services that are not running. Generally, you can feel free to play with the services. If you think a service that's running doesn't need to, simply right click on it and choose stop. If something bad happens, just right click on it again and choose start, or reboot your computer and it will restart automatically. Once you're sure you don't need a service running at all, right click on it, choose properties. Under startup type, choose either Manual, or Disabled. this will prevent it from starting automatically.
