Question about taskbar on XP

Does anyone know how to remove things from the taskbar on Windows XP? I mean the stuff that is on the lower right handed area of the screen (assuming that your taskbar is lining the bottom of the screen). Thanks in advance.

Some of them are built in to the program; others are things that are set to automatically start with Windows. You should be able to right click on one of the icons and change its preferences from within the program (for things like Real Player, MusicMatch Jukebox, AIM, etc.), but with the others, you should do one of the following:

1.) Go to Start, Programs, Startup, and delete any shortcuts that are listed. That controls what programs load at startup, many of which show a tray icon.

2.) Do Start, Run, and type in 'msconfig'. Click on the Startup tab and uncheck the programs you don't want to automatically load with Windows. It's essentially the same as the Startup folder, only it lists some things that the Startup folder doesn't.

Most of the icons in the taskbar have the option of being turned off; you just have to look for it in the program's preferences.

If you want to have the programs started with windows, but not have their icons shown in the task bar.... right click in the empty blue space of the taskbar and go to properties...then click "customize" and you can set each icon you don't want there to "always hide"
