Windows Small Business Server 2003

Today a Windows Small Business Server 2003 Premium Edition (5 client license) was delivered to my house. It has a sticker on it that says, "Promotional Sample Not for Resale". A letter inside indicates that it is a (NFR) Not for resale copy. Is this a full version or just a trial version which will expire? Thanks.

It's a full version (from what I've heard), you just can't resell it.

I got one too. I'm probably going to sell it on Ebay because:

1. I'm not going to use it on my home network
2. I need the money right now since my wife is out of work
3. My Windows 2000 advanced server is doing just fine sharing files like it's supposed to do.

It seems like a lot of people have these right now too - the going price on Ebay has dropped from around $900 3 weeks ago to about $500 now. Keep in mind the premium version they're sending out retails for $1,499 from Micro$haft. Maybe I'll wait a few weeks and sell it then.

there are 2 copies with the action pack. The one in the cardboard is a trial (with a common serial number between all similar trials, but still requires activation). The other is a full version.

I believe the trial is just standard edition (no sql or ISA servers).

Both should have 5 cals

Does Microsoft have any way of tracking the software if I sell it? If I sell the software and someone else activates it, can it be tracked back to me? Must not be trackable if tons of people are selling theirs on Ebay. Will be curious to find out what you guys think.

well, if they read this forum, you might be screwed.

Ebay has rules on software sales. I believe you must sell hardware with an OS. The last time i checked it was like that.

The activation doesn't require a name. I Dont know if the paper license that came with it is in your name or not.

I wouldnt take the risk unless you knew somebody that wanted to buy it. I would also inform them that you cannot technically sell them the software.

You may be able to give the software to them free of charge and sell them a brief extremely overpriced "consulting" fee. O think this may be more legal than outright selling it

I was reading on Fatwallet about some people who put their copies up for sale on Ebay and a Micro$haft Ebay troll from Kirkland, WA was going around buying them up so that M$ could go after them in court. A bunch of them decided to back out of the auctions and take the neg. feedback rather than face M$'s lawyers.
