Question Removing vocals from songs

http://www.usatoday.com/tech/techrev...-add-ons_x.htm

There's a part in there that says the Xbox music maker can strip out the vocals of songs you send to it if you wanna do some karaoke.

Is there a Windows PC version that can strip out vocals of songs I throw at it?

i've seen a lot of filters that claim to be able to strip out vocals, but they only work on certain songs.

There is no program nor piece of hardware that will truly breakdown the vocals and the instrumentals. I suggest that you visit these forums and search through their dozens of threads regarding the topic:

It be nice if there was one. I'm just saying the article says the Xbox can do it. Of course I don't have an Xbox unless you guys want to give me one

Many times, you can get lucky and find karaoke versions of songs on CD or your favorite P2P network.

AnalogX (www.analogx.com) has a Vocal Remover -- it just removes the center channel, so it won't work on Broadway tracks or any other song that has the vox on left and right channels; by doing this, it leaves the backup vocals and the lead singer's reverb on the track, kind of as a reference point. It's not the greatest thing, but it does work.
