WinXP Firewall or 3rd party one?

I have a hardware firewall going on with my router and I've been using Syngate personal firewall pro for years. Should I still enable the native WinXP firewall? Will WinXP firewall mess up the 3rd party one? TIA.

I don't mess with the WinXP firewall. Causes more harm than good usually.

So just leave it as it is (disable) and use the 3rd party instead?

I meant that it causes problems with 3rd party firewall software. They 2 don't seem to want to cooperate for me.

I just use my router NAT as my firewall.

Why? I have it running on many machines with no problem at all. It is essentially just blocking ports, which it does quite well. It is also very easy to open specific ports if you please.

I run the WinXP firewall, but I also have a router with built in firewall. The WinXP one is better than nothing, but im sure the 3rd party one will provide a little better protection.

I find most of the third party ones to be much more frustrating than XP's. The only problem I have with XP's is deciding what ports to open, however if you don't run any servers or applications that act as servers (Kazaa, direct connect, etc) then you don't need to open any ports.

3rd part firewalls usually want to control incoming AND outgoing traffic. So everytime a new program is installed that does something on the network the firewall software pops up and asks if it is OK. If find it highly annoying. The ONLY thing that is saving you from is Trojans and email worms from spamming your friends. If you have virus software installed it should keep that from happening to begin with.

I say go with XP's firewall.. it's free (assuming you have XP), it works, and it isn't annoying.
