Trouble installing Norton AV after upgrading to XP

Hey folks, I have a user that I just upgraded to Windows XP from Win98. I did an upgrade rather than a clean install first, to see if it would be sufficient to solving her problems. So far it is fine, except that I need to install Norton Corporate Edition, and her old OS had Systemworks 2001. I tried to uninstall the S2001 before installing but I get an error saying that the uninstall info is missing from the registry. I cannot install over Systemworks either. Is there any way that I can uninstall this prog or install the new version, without having to do a clean XP install?

Thanks.

I had a similar problem a while back. If the Systemworks is not completely removed, it won't let you put in anything else and Windows removal programs cannot get it all. Here is the Symantec page on removing Systemworks:

If you don't need the system works stuff at all, you can delete the c:\program files\symantec folder completely.

Make sure and symantec or norton services are stopped first.

Thanks fellas. I kind of got around it by installing a newer version of Systemworks and then ran that uninstaller. It seems to have taken care of my problem.

Thanks for the link zippy. That will come in handy in the future.

Yeah I know Darkfury I almost never do that. I am going to cross my fingers like you said but the truth is I just couldn't afford the time to do the clean install because I have too much on my plate at the moment. Either way this computer is going to run better than it was running, for atleast long enough for me to buy some time. My staff is growing by 2 in the next couple of months so I should soon have the time to go back and fix it should I need to. In the meanwhile I will pray to the PC gods to keep it running.
