phpnuke, slashcode, and other similar code

i have a client that is looking to build a website taylored to their hobbies. They want it to be a regional news source for that activity. Anyways, they want me to make a recommendation on what to use.

I have always preferred to go the custom code path, but they want something that they can easily add stories to, customize to their needs, and look professional. I have seen tons of people using PHPnuke, and I have seen others rely on slashcode. The PHP nuke seems to look better, but i have never really used it.

The site will also have a set of forums running on it. These will be forums that relate to the main site. These will probably be done using phpbb or something similar.

Thanks for any recommendations in advance.

phpnuke is outdated code and crappy. postnuke is good. xaraya is even better, although it doesn't have the compatability of postnuke.

I have one site running phpnuke and one site running postnuke, and I like the postnuke CMS much better. Both have integrated phpBB forums.

from what i've heard, postnuke has a lot of security issues.

i'm pretty happy with e107, but the only thing i don't like (it's really trivial) is that you can't view the results of the poll without voting again.

anyone have experience with zope?

What is the source of this information? If it's true I'd like to know since I'm running it on one site and hadn't heard anything.

my cousin was just mentioning how i should just check that the phpnuke and postnuke developers tightened things up. his church was looking into using postnuke until they found it to have security flaws. maybe things were cleaned up. not sure. i didn't like postnuke too much myself.
