knoppix...who'd a thunk it?
wow...i really like this little distro. really convenient to be able to just boot the thing from cd without having to install it...just plain neat. i was especially surprised at how fast it came up and detected damn near everything on the computers i've tried it on. like, just a few minutes to get a fully functional OS running. no joke. but real cute
![]() of course it wouldn't replace a full install by any means. but for a demo or a rescue disk or something just to take around with you so you don't have to put up with OSes around you, it's very nice

I agree - it's one of the coolest things I've seen in a while. However, I always have a hard time getting the screen resolution up to a usable level... have you had any luck with that?

for the resolution, if the autodetect isnt good enough for you, start with the command "knoppix screen=1280x1024" you can add more commands as you need. change the 1280x1024 to whatever you need.
im most familiar with kde on knoppix so thats the best way i can explain how to save you settings to disk. click on the "k" in the bottem left corner, go to KNOPPIX, Configure, and then "Save KNOPPIX configuration". configure what you want to save, then it will ask where you want to save it. you can choose the floppy or a usb drive. when you boot up use the command "knoppix myconfig=scan". i think that should work for both, but ive only tried that with a floppy cuz i was too lazy to type "knoppix myconfig=/mnt/auto/floppy". you can also directly access the usb drive the same way but replace floppy with the address of the usb drive. |
