when you're installing NT 4 server, it explicitly asks you if you want the box to be a Primary Domain Controller, Secondary domain controller, or Stand-Alone Server. How do I set it to be a Primary Domain Controller in Win2000 Server?

Start-Run "dcpromo", the wizard will walk you through the DC promotion. You can run the same command again to demote the server as well.

And just a small point of information... in W2K, there is no concept of 'primary' or 'backup' domain controllers. Now the machine is either a domain controller or a member server. No need to specify primary or backup anymore.
