"System Dangerously Low in Resources"
I am using DVD Movie Factory to convert avi files to VCD and burn them to CDs.
Lately, the whole process is slowing down, including adding files for each burn. Even during the initial setup, the windows for Movie Factory are slow to load. And the progress bar which shows percentage of converting and percentage of burning is slowing down. The burner will finish a recording and yet the software will show that it is just getting started. One of the error messages has been: System is low in resources. The only thing I have running is Explorer and Systray. I have uninstalled and reinstalled Movie Factory. I start and restart the computer, but nothing works.

98SE. I had very few problems with Nero. As soon as I can get this one set of files burned, I am going back to Nero. |

How do you do that? And what setting would you recommend? I have 384 MB RAM. |

From My Lackluster Memory: Right click on My Computer Hardware tab Virtual Memory Button and it will tell you what you currently have it set at. Mind you what it does is allocates that space from the HDD, so you need to have that space available. |

I found it and changed it to 0 minimum and 250 maximum. I have no idea if that's a good setting or not. |

Set the minimum to your RAM size (384MB) and the maximum at 1.5x your RAM size.

You want to make a few more changes. Make the following changes to your system.ini file. You will see a noticeable performance increase. Type as entered as it is case sensitive. [386Enh] ConservativeSwapfileUsage=1 - Forces windows to use physical RAM first, before using the swap file [vcache] MinFileCache=2048 - (specifies the minimum amount of system memory allocated for caching files, min 128 KB, max 51200 KB) MaxFileCache=32768 - ( specifies the maximum amount of system memory allocated for caching files in KiloBytes (KB). min 256 KB - max 56320 KB) ChunkSize=512 - (specifies the size of each block of cache memory buffer in Bytes. Allowed values: min 8 B, max 8192 B) AllocPageFixed=OFF - (specifies whether to allow (if set ot OFF) Windows Vcache 32-bit protected driver to adjust the virtual file cache size to the current needs

I checked the system.ini file. These are the only options avaialable. I have Windows 98SE: (386Enh) Max Paging File Size Min Paging File Size (vcache) No options |

Right they won't be there, you have to do some old fashioned typing and add those changes to the sysyem.ini in the appropriate sections, then reboot. |

Does it matter how and where you post these items. In other words, do they have to be typed exactly how you typed them? There appears to be a gap in between the number and the dash.
And if I leave a space vertically under Paging File Size, is that OK? |

Ignore the dash, that was meant to mean that a definition of what it does was to follow. As I said everything else is case sensitive, type it exactly. |

OK, I added the items. There is a pencil icon next to each added feature and they are checked. Does that mean they are working?

I take it you used msconfig to make the edits. That just means you added a new item to your .ini file. |
