Publishing a web page
I am using FrontPage to publish a web album that was created with a program called AutoSiteGallary although the problem occures with any program I have tried. When I try to publish the created album to my web site I get a message "550 filename.ext: Forbidden filename. The path or filename you have entered contains forbidden characters" when it trys to upload the jpeg files. I figured out it doesn't like spaces between file names like "At the lake.jpg" but must be "AtTheLake.jpg or "At_the_lake.jpg". Anway, I have about 50+ pictures in the album and don't know how to correct them without renaming them one at a time. Also, just about every graphic in my computer has spaces in the file names so the problem won't go away until I fix it permanently. How is the best way to handle this situation?
Thanks

If you want to batch-rename the .jpgs, download IrfanView.
It's free - and a great graphics converter/utility.

but how would he insert the underscores or take the spaces out with irfanview??? is there a feature that does that on there? i have the proggy already, just never noticed if that feature's there. my understanding was that you can add stuff onto the end or before the current name.

I think you're right - my bad... You can use the (dollar sign) for the whole file name but not for parts of it. ![]() |

Thanks
Thanks for the help. That did the trick. Guess I will have to be more careful in the future how I name my files if I'm going to be using them in web pages.

You could use a program like Magic File Renamer or Search And Replace, having it replace spaces in the file names with either nothing or an underscore. I think both programs also support GREP for more complex replacements.
http://mfr.queryweb.com/ http://www.funduc.com/search_replace.htm Magic File Renamer only works with file names, whereas Search And Replace works with text files too. (e.g. You can have it search and replace inside a playlist file to create a batch file for copying all the songs to the same folder. Handy for burning in Nero without mapping every share.) I use both programs and they're pretty sweet. And now, some completely unrelated links i've been working with today: http://www.hamar.sk/sphere/ http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/virtualpc/ http://www.realvnc.com/ |
