DVD X Copy

Many places are still selling X Copy software. When I was in OfficeMax a month ago, one of the shoppers told me that it still works, but will not reproduce copy protected DVDs.

Is this true?

The new version of DVD X Copy is "ripper free". The shoper was correct to tell you that it no longer copies protected DVDs.

I see they no longer list the various X-Copy programs on their site anymore. They do still have their new program called Game X-Copy which is supposed to allow backups of CDs and DVDs as well as games (it will also let you store them on your harddrive so you don't need a disc to play a game). That makes no reference to whether it has a ripper or not. It is supposed to make "an identical copy".

I liked the one-button simplicity of X-Copy Express. You could make a backup of a DVD you own for your own personal use (which is permitted under copyright law) and it would figure out how to compress it to fit on one disc. The last version even had an option for "Entire Disc" which would include more than one audio track and other features. I had downloaded the update for that, but when I heard about their court case ruling (which is under appeal) I ordered a disc version (free plus shipping) in case I ever need to reinstall it. It does require activation by 321 Studios for use, so I do not know what will happen there. Or their lifetime free updates.
