Windows XP Help -- settings won't stick
On my new laptop, I applied all the Critical Updates for Windows XP, and now it doesn't want to remember several things after rebooting:
- Mouse wheel settings (I want it to scroll 3 lines per screen -- always resets back to 1 line) - Smooth scrolling in Internet Explorer (I want it enabled -- keeps disabling when I reboot) - Cookies (Keeps removing them upon reboot, making me have to re-logon to sites that I normally don't need to (like these forums). Any idea what could be causing this, and more importantly, what I can do about it? |

Looks like I found the problem on my machine -- the Synaptics touchpad drivers.
If you don't need any fancy touchpad drivers (you can still use the touchpad without them, you just don't get the scrolling/tap zones/etc features), disable the following two entries in MSCONFIG: SynTPEnh SYNTPLdr That solved the problem for me (and I narrowed down every other running task to determine this). |
