Exclamation MS Project help

I have to create a wedding plan for my project management class and for some reason when I plug the duration for the task the gantt chart and automatic start/finish dates show it only lasting a fraction of what I put in. For example, when I put in 1 week it will only last 2 days, starts on 5/29/05 and ends on 5/31/05. An 8 week task only lasts 14 days. Any idea why this happens and how to fix it. It's not a huge project, only about 40 tasks, but I don't want to have to fix every single line manually. Thanks in advance.

If you look at 'Tools' ... 'Options' and then the 'Calendar' tab, are your units for 'hours per day', 'hours per week', and 'days per month' correct? I'm thinking that maybe these might be off.

I set the working time so that its 8 hours a day, 7 days a week. Then under the calendar options I set the number of hours a week to 56 and days per month to 30, although that 30 didn't seem to have any effect on it whatsoever.
