I'm not the sysadmin, but our company uses sitescope. Haven't heard any complaints about it...other than it sends out lots of emails when our servers are down. I'm sure that's configurable.

What kind of servers and what do you want to monitor? Traffic, uptime, port scans, etc.?

Not sure how this one stacks up to the others, but we use IP Sentry which is pretty low cost and quite configurable. IP Sentry

What's Up Gold is a good package, recently replaced by What's Up Professional. Pretty reasonable priced. They also have a Small Office version if you have 10 or fewer devices.

We used to use What's UP Gold. However I found it somewhat buggy at times and I could never get it setup to actually monitor if a Sybase server was running or not. We eventually switched to Intellipool Network Monitor. It even has support for monitoring server room temps with a hardware addon.

thanks guys

Server room temp monitor is a PLUS.

Our server room AC crapped out once and boy was it hot and loud.

We haven't bought any of the TempTrax modules yet. But I keep trying to get management to buy into the idea. They are only around $200.00 for a 4 probe ethernet enabled module.

It would be well worth it for us, a couple of years ago our air conditioner failed on christmas eve, by the time I got the call to come in, it was over 120 degrees in the server room, and most of the Sun equipment had already shutdown due to the extreme heat. I was amazed that all we lost was a couple of disk drives. (in seprate raid arrays so we didn't lose any data)

If you decide to look into INM and have any questions on configuring it, shoot me a PM.
