All kinds of data base questions.
"Good Morning Genuises!"
I was writing with a multipart question... I would like to set up a data base of many statistics, that will be calulated in many ways. Basically like excel to the next level. It will not ever really take on super complex math. it will just be add, subtract, multiply, divide, average.. and so forth. I imagine that the amount of fields i will need will be 106X400 fields per sheet. So i think i will be overcoming that size that excel can handle. I have read a little about sql. But i just wanted to know if there are any major database people here who would recommend me towards specific software. Also, i am thinking i will end up writing some programs to manipulate the data to get my results... So again, what software works best to manipulate data bases. I imagine it could all be in one but i was not sure. I also probably will need to load the info up on a serve as i don't want to lose it all to a fit of harddrive rage... So is there any server you would recommend or os? Sorry if this is long boring and unintersting, but i would love any and all thoughts... Thank you, Mark

I would just use Access... since you might already have it, and you can program in VB which is cake.
Though I am not convinced that a database is the right tool for the job. P.S. Ironically the word is spelled "geniuses."

That is getting close to exceeding the size that excel supports, but it isn't there yet. I also think you'd spend the majority of your time messing with VB/SQL/Access instead of actually calculating statistics.. Excel is the tool you need and if/when you exceed the sheet size limitations, just split the data across 2 sheets and put the calculations on a 3rd.
