Drive Imaging in Windows XP.
Is it possible to image from one computer to another one without calling Microsoft tech support?

I don't know if this will necessarily work, but use Norton Ghost? I don't know if HDD change is a detectable setting on license security stuff, but if it's perfectly imaged I don't know if that'll set it off..

Calling M$ wouldn't do you any good anyway - they don't sell drive imaging software, and the ability does not exist in any OS they sell.
You'll need a third-party app like Ghost to do it.

I've done it using Ghost.

I know that. I am concerned about whether another code would have to be entered in the new computer since the hardware is different. |

I have to do this myself. I decided to just start from scratch with one of my 10 XP codes from Micro$haft and just migrate my data over and reload my apps. I figured it would be a cleaner install to do it that way and I wouldn't have to deal with m$.

With the number of hardware changes happening on my system with this upgrade (new memory, different HD structure, DVD-RW drives, completely new motherboard/processor combo, etc) I'd definitely be getting the re-activation prompt.

This is for another computer. What if I copied to a hard drive in the original computer(slave), then transferred the hard drive to the new computer. Would it immediately pick it up and call for a new code? |
