domain renewal

i currently bought my domain through registerfly.com's service. is it possible to switch to a different company but keep the same domain? i need to renew in the next 10 days or so.

also, my current webhosting company offers 500MB, 20 GB of transfer/month, unlimited pop3, ftp, etc. for $40/year. is there any better deal? thanks!

Re: domain name transfer

Most domain registrars have their own services to do this. I've used godaddy.com's transfer service (from registerfly, as a matter of fact) and it went flawlessly.

Go to www.godaddy.com, go to "Domain Names" and go to the pulldown selection "Transfer."

Good luck!

do i have to fill out anything with registryfly? also, i don't get charged twice, right? i just go through godaddy's 3-step transfer process and pay that, right? thanks caribiner.

You shouldn't have to do anything with registerfly. Just make sure they don't have you set up for automatic renewal or, to be doubly safe, that they don't have your credit card number. The godaddy process should be enough to follow.

if your domain expires in less than 30 days you will probably have to renew with registerfly then transfer to godaddy. there is some rule about that read up on the FAQ on godaddy

You can also use popregister.com if you want to keep your contact information private.
That's what I use.

Correct.

As long as you set the new registry entry at godaddy.com to point to the correct nameservers at your hosting company, you should be all set.
