Hmm How can I copy copy-protected DVD's???

Maybe this is a stupid question...excuse my ignorance.....but i coulda swore, that by buying a dvd-burner (NEC ND-3500A), that i'd be able to copy ANY dvd, copy-protected or not.

the software that i am using is InterVideo DVD Copy Gold...it won't let me burn copy-protected dvd's. Is there any software that gets around this? Any hacks available???

thanx

You are just making personal back-up copies of DVDs you already own for just your personal use, aren't you? Other uses may be a violation of copyright laws. That is why they cannot include software that does this.

There have been a couple of movies I bought that DVD Shrink was not able to copy. I gave up, and just have to be careful with the original disc. Sorry.

DVD Decrypter, try using that, also i would upgrade the firmware to a hack version so you can "rip" the files off of the DVD faster then 2x, i think the hack will let it rip at 10-16x

DVD-X is the best program that I found for making back-ups of my DVDs for personal use. I know that it isn't supposed to be around anymore. I bought a copy, before it was pulled.

I have it, but it requires activation to be able to use it and the company is out of business. Do you know any way around that? Otherwise it will be useless. Mine is still active so I am ok.

thanks for that stunning insight. why pay $20 again just becuase your original got scratched? i have the originals of all my dvds locked away, and only watch backups. not to mention the fact that you can cut out all the annoying menus, remove child-unfriendly scenes, etc... i love being able to say eff yoo to disney, the evil empire that feels that, having taken my $20+ for their stinkin 83 minute movie, they have the right to disable the menu button and force my kids to watch 27 minutes of ads for other disney products...

check out dvd43 it runs at the driver level and gets rid of just about every type of copy protection before DVDshrink even reads the DVD.

Amen to that, sister.

I'm still peeved that my kids ruined the Toy Story 1 & 2 DVD set I bought last year. I mean, not that it was their fault - young kids with sticky fingers + DVD = certain death for the DVD in a matter of months (or hours, depending on the kids).

I really need to get myself a burner to make a backup - I may be able to get the discs to spin long enough to copy them, but that's about it at this point.

Oh, and everyone who hasn't, check out http://www.videohelp.com - easily the best site out there for video copying/conversion/editing/etc.

I use AnyDVD.. it is great. Decodes the DVD at the device layer so the applications do not 'see' any copy protection. After that, you can use any dvd copy software. Personally, I use CloneDVD2 or something like that. Lots of resampling options to fit large movies onto 4.5GB media.
