How to clean out user data in Win2K?
So yea, how do I completely remove user data in Windows 2000?
Is it just removing the directory C:\Documents and Settings\user1\ etc...??

Do you want no trace that this user ever used the machine? If so you will have to go into the registry. If you just want their files gone then the directory you listed is the correct one to delete.

You could always delete the folders and then run something like EasyCleaner or CCleaner to remove the dead reg entries.

Why not just make a backup of what you want to keep and reformat the whole drive?? you could start from scratch with your hard drive as good as new

You are welcome, guys - Easy Cleaner is my favorite - I have never seen it screw anything up, and I have yet to delete something using it that causes a problem. CCleaner is a little stronger, and I would recommend saving backups of the reg entries (the program asks if you want to do this) just in case. Most times there is no problem, but I have had to go back and restore some reg entries on a couple of machines. Here's another good one - NT registry backup and optimization... Also free... Or just use the control panel...
Go to Control Panel.. System.. Advanced.. User Profiles (Sorry, that's the XP path. May be slightly different in W2K). Choose the account you want to delete & click 'delete'. |

Do we need to do a "favorite freeware utilities" and "favorite freeware sites" thread? I love a good deal - which is why I am here. Free is good, IMHO.
