Streaming media, always buffering.
I have cox.com Cable Internet. I pay 40 a month for 1mb down. It is plenty fast for downloading and email... But whenever I watch streaming media in WMP, www.mlb.tv, ThaiTV , or some other stuff. I get rebuffering every 2 minutes. Setting the WMP 10 or 9 buffer to the max 300 seconds helps occasionally, but it will still rebuffer 10 min later. I doubt it is my network, since i have a cable modem into my private Airport Extreme, then to my laptop.
How can I get Cox.com to stop limiting me to about 100k or is this an evil of cable. Edit: I should mention I am watching media 250 350 and 700Kbps

Are you required to use Windows Media for all that you stream? What happens if you stream video/audio with other players?

Well most media is ASX which i think is for WMP only. Mlb.tv also has real media which buffers similarly. I don't think it is the player. I am fairly certain I am being limited in bandwidth or the connection to streaming media is. I have run dslreports speed tests, and get 274 Down 374 Up, but on next test i got 500d/514u so I don't know what to think
I am only here for another month, but then I move back, and cox most likely does this anywhere they provide service. Last edited by AmRivlin : 04-14-2005 at 10:30 PM. |
