There's a merger that makes a lot of sense. Geez, that new company will dominate the industry...

I dunno... I've been hating adobe pdf's more and more with the countless number of updates it warns me about. it'll be incredible having photoshop integrated with dreamweaver....but... i dunno. kinda scary.

Personally, I like the idea of having certain programs integrated with each other. But Acrobat needs to remain a standalone and not weave it's programming crap into any of the Macromedia stuff.

I've hated Adobe ever since they started using 40Mb of system memory... and never free'd it the f&^k up. *spits and ctrl-alt-del's another 40mb pdf viewer*

the take they presented on NPR was that this would enable both companies to compete better with Microsoft. According the NPR story I heard the next generation Microsoft OS will have built in capability to read (and maybe create, I'm not sure) PDF files essentially kicking Adobe to the curb. Since Acrobat is the only thing I use from either company, I really don't think this merger will affect me at all.

Brewmeister, did they mention Apple at all? Currently you can create PDF's within the OS, and the next version (out later this month) allows you to edit PDF's as well. I am not sure how merging really helps them compete

Acrobat is only one app from Adobe, and it's losing market share like crazy with all of the open source apps available now. MS would be stupid not to include a PDF reader & creator in an upcoming Windows release. Adobe would be smart to put that one on a back burner.

However, the area where they'll dominate is graphic & web design in general. Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Premiere, Flash, ColdFusion - all of these apps in the same company will dominate the industry.
