IM help

Can someone recommend a good IM software? I just want to chat, no video needed. I haven't IM'ed in awhile but I need to know if i use msn messenger, can I talk to someone with an AOL name? Then there's trillian which can access several networks, but someone on this board hinted at spyware which obviously I'm not fond of.

Anyone use campusIM ?

trillian doesnt have spyware, i have the pro version, works very nicely

I was going to say, I have been using it for years. Unless its the free version.

So the free version has spyware or you haven't used the free version in years?

Another question on these multi-network IM programs. Do i have to sign in with each network or can i create a global name that can be used in all networks?

I have been using the paid one for years and I have the free one on my laptop. No spyware on either.

You just setup a profile and add all your connections to that profile. You can set it up to not login unless you put in a master username and password.
