Isn't the first Vista virus Vista itself?

LOL. It has potential, but this in my opinion sets it back some.

I have yet to see vista, but i guess there are lots of things taht are very similar to OS X, like the spotlight magnifying glass (vista is the same thing but flipped over), and minor interface elements.

If Apple ever becomes popular, people will write viruses... Its like building road blocks that can stop an Aztek... Why bother?

How popular is Vista? People write viri for Macs all the time... you just kinda have to be stupid to fall for them. (ie: hey look at this program I downloaded off www.xn78ek.ot ... lets run it)

Ok, vista, more importantly, the monad shell is all new. Mac OS X has been around since 2001. We are comparing an upcoming product that has been available to select developers for days, as opposed to a product that has been in use for years. There are more Mac OS X users right now than Vista users. So if OS popularity determines the amount of viruses, OS X should have tons more than Vista. I believe OS X has over 10 Million users. MS released vista to under 10,000 developers. Big difference in popularity.

The virus is a proof of concept, but monad had the exploit DAYS after it was released. Not good.

Make all the excuses you want...

Making no excuses, but there are more people that are computer savy that write viruses that dislike microsoft then dislike apple. He did it to be the first to make a vista virus. Everything has security holes and virus writiers like to see MS suffer more than other OS manufacterers.

To clarify my UN hatred toward mac: I have a computer with XP on it, when I am finish school, I will also have a mac computer in my computer/entertainment room!

i guess M$ decided to pull monad from vista, but it will be included in the server.

If they keep pulling features, they will be back to XP. No more WinFS, no more Monad, whats next?

You have to be stupid to fall for a Windows virus also.

(edited out ribitch quote and reply 'cause I'm a doofus)

Anyway, I don't see what it matters anyway because a lot of people still aren't running XP when they're not forced to; most IT firms stay a generation/release behind. My former employer (Kinkos) had the older version of everything - Adobe software, Windows, etc. Hell they ran 95b on all their computers until (roughly) 2003 when they finally upgraded to 2kPro. Vista won't be mainstream (business wise) until the Windows release after that, and most home users are still too keen with 2k or XP to switch to another iteration of Windows.

You must have missed out on W32.Beagle and the likes.

Your other comments make no damn sense. Read back through the thread on the context of his comments. He wasn't boasting about user base, he was shooting down another argument.

What does it matter? It's software that hasn't even been released. It implies that the software may have some serious security holes.

Hahaha! Because you can write a virus for it? Show me an OS you can't write a virus for and I'll show you the world's most secure OS.

It's in beta testing - I hope MORE people come up with security issues in it so they can be fixed BEFORE the release.

Ok, got it now. me =
I see now that ribitch was trying to say "hey, if a larger userbase equals more viruses, and OSX has a greater userbase than Vista, then OSX should have more viruses than Vista" (which it doesn't). I get the point he was trying to make now...sorry ribitch.

Now ask yourself why are they making it for vista. The reason being is they want to be the first to make a virus on it. People pick on MS products just so they can say the OS they use is the holy grail. Look no virus's that means its more secure. NOT! Just because people relized that majority of home (wait let me stress that HOME) users are Windows based then why would they waste their time to develop a virus for another OS?

Lets put it like this, you are a theif. 90% of home locks are one brand and 10% are another brand of lock, both locks have the same security features now which lock would you spend the most time on learning to pick? Statistically its more effective to use the most popular so when you go out and try to pick on the odds are in your favor.

XP is by far the best OS and when Vista comes out i'm sure it will be just as good or better.

i sure hope so.

my main rig right now is a powerbook (since march), but i still use my PC desktop from time-to-time, and i proudly say that i like OSX 100x better than XP in terms of stability. vista better be a big improvement.
