OS X on intel
anyone try it yet?
I am impressed with the speed. It does pretty good on Xbench benchmarking. I am surprised on how much hardware is supported on the hacked version. I am curious as to why Apple didnt protect the software better. I guess the hacker said Apple could have done much much more to protect it. I do have a few theories though: 1 - Apple wanted to see how hackers would attempt to break it before the final systems were released. This way they can see the methods they would use and adequately protect against it. 2 - Apple wanted it to be hacked, so they get extra people testing it for flaws. 3 - Apple wanted it to be hacked so people who don't own a Mac can see what the experience is like. Once these people try it, they would be more inclined to buy it. 4 - Apple wanted it to be hacked so the hackers could start to develop apps for x86. The people doing the hacking typically can program. This will bring more users and software to the platform. 5 - Apple wants to see how the OS does on a wide variety of systems. This will help them prepare to license the OS to outside hardware manufacturers. I am pretty confident Apple knew it would leak and get hacked. I have yet to hear Apple closing down any sites that demonstrate how to hack it. There are tons of them out there, and many of them include images and video. There are also tons of links to the torrent to get the cracked IMG file. and a side note, i was able to play with vista. In my opinion, you can tell its still a beta. The new start menu sucks. All programs has an arrow pointing right, yet the list opens above. not very fluid. Small detail, but details matter. The icons for folders in the start menu are also ugly. Windows Explorer also is not very fluid. They removed the file/edit/etc menus and added image based menus. The menus are not in the top corner anymore, rather they are above the right side pane. Aero has bugs. The window title doesnt apple like it does in Aero glass. IE 7 is also akward. The tabs suck compared to other browsers. It looks like you can type the URL in the tab, but you cant. The new tab button also looks odd.

What about #6 - Apple security is not that good? Hahahahahaha! Sorry, I couldn't let that one go. Also, not to hijack your thread, but I don't like the Vista start menu either. I can't decide yet if it's because it's a bad design or if I'm just not used to it. However, you can switch it back to the regular XP looking menu. One thing I DO like is that they got rid of all of the 'MY ...' crap. No more My Computer, My Documents, My Music, etc. Now it's just Computer, Documents and Music. |
