Ripping CD Audio and MP3 Conversion

Hey, can anyone here share what kind of software they are using to convert their CD's to MP3's nowadays? What kind of settings do you use? I've been using a combo of Exact Audio Copy and Razor Lame for years now, and I know there has to be something much better out right now (and free).

There isn't. --r3mix VBR mp3s are still the best for sound quality, fiel sizes, and compatability.

I use CDex and love it, one touch solution with just the right amount of customizability, but i guess i'm not that concerned with file sizes.

Does iTunes use an external plugin (i.e. lame, etc) to encode mp3's? If so, wouldn't the sound quality be o nly as good as the plugin?
