system error when trying to run older games

i'm running XP, with few problems. all of a sudden, i can't run my old DOS and 9x games. I've got one installed that i can play, but i can't run sim city classic, or install C&C(any of them). the error that it gives me says-
----------------------
16 Bit Windows Subsystem

C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'Close' to terminate the application.
----------------------
it give me close and ignore as options, both just close the error box.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

You said "all of a sudden". I'm guessing that you used to be able to run this games on your XP box. Please confirm.

C'mon, Yoss. It's time to move up from Pong. There's this nifty "new" game called "Breakout" that you might want to try.

If you have XP pro as do I , I can play the c&c games ie: Red Alert 2 & yuri's revenge. XP pro has a program that will allow you to play older games(provided that they aren't 10 plus years old) I am at work but I will look it up on my home computer and reply.

In my copy of XP Pro I use the "Program Compatiblity Wizard" to run older games. It will emulate the older O/S's

I hope that helps.
