network problem

When i try to use p2p program, sometimes i get an error about connecting with port 4662 and i always seem to get "You have a lowid. Please review your network config and/or your settings.". Anyone know anything about this, or anything i can do to make it so i can get downloads at speeds faster than like 10k? Thanks, and I am trying to use a p2p for legal legitmate stuff as well!

Are you behind a firewall? You may have to allow traffic in & out on that port.

I have no firewall on my computer, I opened up the range of ports for the TCP and UDP on my router and enabled my computer as the DMZ host......it is still slow! Any other ideas, thanks though jeffbx.

Your ISP may have those ports blocked, so you may need to have some kind of port forwarding setup through the router to your computer... not sure though, just a guess.

Info about it:

Quote:
What ports does the donkey use?
It can run over any port. The defaults it uses are:
TCP port 4661 to connect to the server.
TCP port 4662 to connect to other clients.
UDP port 4665 to send messages to servers other then the one you are connected to.
You can see and change what ports you are using through the Options Menu, Networking Selection.

(Google'd port 4662)

This is one of the ways i was able to get the LOWID thing away. Go to start/run then type in command.
once in there type ipconfig. that will tell you the last digits in your ip ex) xxx.xxx.x.102 <---THIS
remember this number. Then open up Internet Explorer and type this ip in the address bar: 192.168.1.1
it will bring up a menu asking you for a Username and password. If you do not know this then type admin for the password in lower case so.
Username:
Password:admin
once in there hit advance on the top right. Then click on DMZ Host in the top middle. A screen with an IP will come up that looks like this
192.168.1.___ where the underline is (blank box) type in the last number of your ip address you got before. After this go to Forwarding on the top menu again. once in there click on Port Triggering on the bottom. then copy this exactly

Application name: eMule
Trigger Port Range: 4660~4712
Incoming Port Range:4660~4712
(yes the same number twice)
click apply and you should be good to go!

This worked for me and has not been tested by anyone else yet. Please tell me if this worked for you or if you have any tips! This is my first tutorial so sorry if it sucks. thanks.

http://www.portforward.com/routers.htm
The site above is info on how you can forward ports with routers other then Linksys. It pretty much has all of the main routers and step by step instructions. Enjoy

Side note - I'd be careful about putting anything into DMZ. I have one thing in DMZ on my network...my Xbox. I'm not worried about anyone hacking that...but a computer...I'd never put into the DMZ. I'd recommend changing that, modena.
