Now I've Win 98 installed in my system. So, basically I just need to get an upgrade version of Win ME (for around $40 at buy.com after coupon).
My question is that, since it is an upgrade version so does it means that everytime i format my hard drive, i've to install Win98 first then only can upgrade it using upgrade version of Win ME?

One more thing is that, when upgrade to Win ME, does it ask for the key of Win 98? If yes, is the key of OEM version of Win 98 (came with Dell PC) can be used?

I personally would have to say don't bother with WinME. With the new media player 7 slowing down the system and with a buggy, already declared inferior IE 5.5 . . . Win 98se is a much better os than ME. If your system can handle it, go with W2K for more stability.

ME is not that bad- I am running it and it is solid and boots a little faster than 98se. As far as upgrading your OS. I personally advise to never purchase or use "upgrade". They suck, and something almost always goes wrong. FDISK that baby, do a clean load of ME or win2k and you will be running way smooth. I reformat every 6 months or so cause your system runs way smoother and it is very healthy for your system. Nothing like a fresh, clean solid load of WINME OR WIN2k, makes a huge difference. Get a full version.

No, you don't really have to install 98 first if you ever want to re-install ME. All you have to do is run setup from the ME disk, and if it can't find 98 on your hard drive, it'll ask you to verify that you own it by popping in the 98 CD. It'll then continue with the install.

and it really ain't that much more a pain in the butt then otherwise.

Only get ME if you are a reviewer, a junkie, or are having problems with 98. ME's biggest advantage is the restore option (which sometimes kicks in without asking) and the faster boot up.
