BitTorrent

I was wondering if someone could explain the tit-for-tat usage system of BitTorrent to me. I have read about downloads not running at optimal if you dont share enough, exactly what should be done to always keep 100% download speed (like let things upload until they hit 100%?). Also, is actually using like BitTorrent 4.2.1 the best program for transfer or is there something else and what are the best search engines for it? Thanks so much!

With any bittorrent, the faster your upload is, the faster your download will be. At work, where I have a T1 (1.5MB both ways), I get MUCH MUCH faster downloads than I do at home, where I have cable broadband (4MB down, only 384k up).

so does it matter what share ratio you have? Like should i always wait until i have hit 100% share on a file or until the upload:download ratio is 1:1? Or just more speed upload means more speed download and the ratio is meaningless? Please fill me in, i have tried to look it up and cant seem to figure it out!

I use Azureus, and I have not noticed that download speed has anything at all to do with the ratios. The significat difference (for me, anyway) seems only to be the upload speed.

HOWEVER - having said that, it's also logical that the faster my upload, the faster my ratios would be met. But there's never a time that my downloads on broadband even come close to the T1 speeds, even though the broadband has a much higher capacity.

I used azureus, but switched over to bittornado. Even though azureus was more tweekable, bittornado gave me faster download speeds - plus...it's still pretty tweekable..

the only thing i don't like with azureus is the fact it won't automatically stop the upload once it's hit 100% (if anyone's got a work around/plugin for that, please tell me). otherwise, i think azureus is the best.

The only reason I use Azureus is because it was the highest rated client at the time I installed it - never even tried any others. There could be better ones.
